อุทยานแห่งชาติหาดขนอม-หมู่เกาะทะเลใต้ มีพื้นที่ทางทะเลประมาณ 129,939 ไร่ หรือ 67 % ของพื้นที่ทั้งหมด ประกอบด้วยเกาะจำนวน 11 เกาะ ได้แก่ เกาะแตน เกาะราบ เกาะมัดโกง เกาะมัดแตง เกาะวังนอก เกาะวังใน เกาะมัดสุ่ม เกาะราใหญ่ เกาะท่าไร่ เกาะผี และเกาะน้อย หนึ่งในเกาะเหล่านี้ เป็นเกาะแห่งตำนานความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของ หลวงปู่ทวดเหยียบน้ำทะเลจืด นั่นคือ เกาะนุ้ยนอก นอกจากนี้ เขาพับผ้า ยังเป็นเขาที่มีลักษณะทางธรณีวิทยาเหมือนแผ่นหินซ้อนทับกันเป็นชั้นๆ อันเกิดจากชั้นหินปูนสลับชั้นหินดินดาน สะสมในน้ำทะเลตื้นมากกว่า 260 ล้านปี เป็นเขาที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์อีกเขาหนึ่งในท้องทะเลแห่งนี้ที่อุดมสมบูรณ์มาก โดยเฉพาะปากแม่น้ำที่เป็นแหล่งพักพิงอาศัยของเหล่า โลมาสีชมพู
