ปราสาทพนมรุ้ง ตั้งอยู่บนยอดเขาพนมรุ้ง ซึ่งเป็นภูเขาไฟที่ดับสนิทแล้ว ตั้งอยู่ในพื้นที่ตำบลตาเป๊ก อำเภอเฉลิมพระเกียรติ จังหวัดบุรีรัมย์ เป็นโบราณสถานศิลปะแบบเขมรในประเทศไทยที่มีความงดงามและมีความสำคัญที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งในประเทศไทย ศาสนสถานแห่งนี้สร้างขึ้นเพื่อถวายแด่องค์พระศิวะ เทพเจ้าสูงสุดในศาสนาฮินดู ลัทธิไศวนิกาย เขาพนมรุ้งและปราสาทบนยอดเขาจึงเปรียบเสมือนเขาไกรลาสอันเป็นที่ประทับของพระศิวะ และยังเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของศูนย์กลางจักรวาลอีกด้วย กลุ่มอาคารบนยอดเขามีการก่อสร้างหลายยุคสมัยตั้งแต่พุทธศตวรรษที่ 15 - 18

Prasat Phanom Rung is situated on the top of Phanom Rung Mountain which is an extinct volcano and located in Tambon Ta Pek, Amphoe Chaloem Phra Kiat, Buriram Province. It is the historical site of Khmer Art and also one of the most beautiful and important in Thailand. This religious place was built to dedicate Shiva, a supreme god of Hinduism in Shaivism. The Phanom Rung Mountain and the Prasat Phanom Rung on the hilltop are compared as Kailash Mountain, a throne-hall of Shiva and also a symbol of the center of the universe. A group of buildings on the hill top were constructed for many periods since the 15th – 18th century Buddha.
