อุทยานแห่งชาติเวียงโกศัย ก่อตั้งเมื่อวันที่ 9 ตุลาคม 2524 เป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติลำดับที่ 35 ของประเทศ มีเนื้อที่ 256,250 ไร่ หรือ 410 ตารางกิโลเมตร ภูมิประเทศตอนบนเทือกเขาเป็นป่าดิบแล้ง ส่วนตอนล่างมีลักษณะเป็นป่าเบญจพรรณ มีแหล่งท่องเที่ยวเป็นน้ำตกขนาดใหญ่ ชื่อว่า "น้ำตกแม่เกิ๋งหลวง" มีทั้งหมด 7 ชั้น ระยะทางจากชั้นที่ 1 ถึงชั้นที่ 7 มีระยะ 200 เมตร
